Horseback riding in the Andes

Horseback tours ride into the Andean foothills, often timed for sunset and finished with an asado, the Argentine barbecue. They are small-group products of roughly five to eight hours, and the listings include both beginner rides and longer gaucho days.

Good to know: Check the riding experience required, group size and pickup point before you book. In the mountains, weather and season change what is comfortable on a horse. Ask whether the asado and drinks are included; a sunset ride and a lunch ride are different products.

Frequently asked questions

Which wine district should I choose?

Luján de Cuyo and Maipú are the classic districts close to the city; the Uco Valley is further away, roughly an hour-plus by car. Half-day tours stay near the city, while Uco trips are usually full days.

Can I see Aconcagua on a day trip?

The high-mountain tours drive Route 7 to Puente del Inca and the Aconcagua park, usually 10 to 12 hours. They are viewpoint tours, not climbs, and visibility depends on the weather.

How far is Uspallata?

Uspallata is roughly 100 km west of Mendoza, on the road towards the Chilean border.

Is Mendoza a beach destination?

No. It is a desert city at the foot of the Andes, built around wine, mountains and outdoor activities.

Is Santiago de Chile close?

Santiago lies across the Andes and needs a border crossing, so it is a separate journey. Tours departing from Santiago are not part of this site.

What does a wine tour usually include?

Many half-day listings visit three wineries with tastings and an olive-oil stop; full days and Uco trips add lunch. Always compare the number of wineries and what is included.
